Short version: We only collect what's needed to run NEPAWatch — your email for alerts, your area for relevant reports. We never sell your data. We never spam. You can delete your account any time.
1. Who We Are
NEPAWatch Nigeria ("NEPAWatch", "we", "us") is a free, crowd-sourced power outage tracking service covering all 36 states and FCT of Nigeria. We are operated by an independent developer based in Nigeria.

2. Information We Collect
We collect the minimum data needed to provide the service:
- Account data — Your name and email address when you register (or your Google name/email if you sign in with Google).
- Location data — The street or area name you set in the app. We do not collect your device GPS coordinates except temporarily when you use the "Detect My Location" feature to look up your street name.
- Reports you submit — When you report a power outage or restoration, we store the location, time, and report type. Your user ID is linked to the report but your name is not shown publicly by default.
- Saved places — Locations you save (Home, Work, School) so we can send you relevant alerts.
- Push notification tokens — If you enable push notifications, we store the token to deliver alerts to your device.
- Contact messages — If you send us a message via the Contact page, we store your name, email and message.
We do not collect payment card data, government ID, or any biometric information.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To send you real-time email alerts when power goes out or is restored in your saved areas.
- To show you relevant reports from areas near your set location.
- To attribute reports to your account (for the community leaderboard — your name only, not your email).
- To respond to messages you send us via the Contact page.
- To improve the service and understand which areas are most active.
We do not use your data for advertising targeting, sell it to third parties, or share it with data brokers.
4. Third-Party Services
NEPAWatch uses the following third-party services, each with their own privacy policies:
- Supabase — Our database and authentication provider. Your data is stored on Supabase servers. See supabase.com/privacy.
- Google OAuth — If you choose "Continue with Google", Google shares your name and email with us. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Fonts — Font files are loaded from Google's CDN.
- Google AdSense — We display ads to help keep the service free. Google may use cookies to show relevant ads. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- ipapi.co — Used once to detect if you are outside Nigeria (to show relevant guidance). No account data is sent.
5. Cookies and Local Storage
We use browser localStorage to remember your preferences (theme, location, outside-Nigeria check) and to keep you logged in between sessions. We do not use tracking cookies beyond what Google AdSense requires.
6. Data Retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. Reports are kept indefinitely as part of the public community record. If you delete your account, your profile and saved places are deleted; your past reports are anonymised (user ID removed).
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data via the Account settings in the app.
- Delete your account and associated data by contacting us.
- Opt out of email alerts at any time from Account → Notifications.
- Revoke Google OAuth access from your Google account settings at any time.

8. Security
All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Passwords are never stored in plain text — authentication is handled by Supabase Auth with bcrypt hashing. Row-level security (RLS) policies ensure users can only access their own data. We take reasonable technical steps to protect your information, but no system is 100% secure.
9. Children's Privacy
NEPAWatch is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us immediately.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top. For significant changes, we'll notify users via an in-app announcement. Continued use of NEPAWatch after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
